No. 19/24 Bentley Faces Another Difficult Test Saturday at Pace

WALTHAM, Mass. – Following its first loss since November, the Bentley University women's basketball team will face another difficult road test on Saturday when it plays a 3:30 pm game at Pace University. The game from the Goldstein Athletics Center in Pleasantville, N.Y. can be viewed on the NE10 Digital Network.

Despite the loss to New Haven, Bentley remains at the top of the Northeast-10 Northeast Division standings with a 7-1 conference record, although their lead dropped from two games to one with Saint Anselm and Stonehill tied for second. The Falcons, ranked 19th by D2SIDA and 24th by the WBCA this week, are 12-4 overall with eight wins in their last nine.

Pace has the second most wins in the Northeast-10 at 13-4 and is tied for second in the Southwest Division, a game back of nationally-ranked Adelphi University. Three of the Setters' four losses have occurred at home, including Jan. 8 against Le Moyne.

Both the Falcons and Setters rank in the conference's top five in both scoring and rebounding. Bentley is fifth in scoring (67.8) and the same in scoring defense (58.3). Pace ranks fourth in scoring (68.9) and third in points allowed (57.5). The Falcons are 9-0 when reaching 67 on the scoreboard and the Setters are 12-1 when giving up 60 or less.

Senior center Monica Viapiano (Holden/Holy Name HS) was Bentley's top performer in Tuesday's loss to New Haven, scoring 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting. She leads the Falcons in scoring (14.6), rebounds (6.4) and blocks (15) with her .576 field goal percentage second best in the conference.

Sophomore guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton North HS), at 11.5 points per game, is Bentley's second double-figure scorer and is the team leader in three-pointers (28) and steals (26).

Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England), a graduate forward, has had the hot hand of late, shooting 49 percent both overall and from three during the last ten games. She's also made 20 of 25 free throws while averaging 10.5 points and 6.9 rebounds during that span.

Sophomore guard Kolleen Bouchard (Houlton, Maine/Houlton HS) has been the top scorer off the bench, averaging five points while connecting at a 58 percent clip.

Senior guard Jackie DellaSanti is having a strong season for Pace with her 18.4 scoring average third best in the Northeast-10. She has a half-dozen double-doubles and a .550 field goal percentage. DelliSanti, with a 7.4 rebound average for coach Carrie Seymour's team, is second on the squad in that category, following the 8.0 put up by junior forward Lauren Schletter

In its most recent game, Pace held Assumption to 33 percent shooting in a 65-57 road win. Schletter had a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double and also blocked a half-dozen shots.

Bentley has won eight straight against Pace, including a 71-59 win last February, but is only 3-3 in its last six trips to Pace. In last year's game, Viapiano scored 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting and current senior Maddy Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H./Conant HS) followed with 15 and 8. For Pace, DelliSanti scored 19 while making 9 of 14.

On Wednesday, Bentley will be in the Dana Center to host Saint Rose, the only home appearance in a span of four of five on the road.
