PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --- Sophomore guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton North HS), last year's Rookie of the Year in the America East Conference, scored 22 points and made four steals as Bentley University posted a bounce-back win over Goldey Beacom College, 67-55, Saturday afternoon during the Northeast-10/CACC Challenge at USciences' Athletic Recreation Center.

The victory came less than 20 hours after the Falcons fell to USciences, 56-40, in their season-opener Friday night.

Consecutive three-pointers by Brekke, 37 seconds apart, put Bentley in front to stay, 12-7, with just under three minutes left in the opening quarter. The former University of New Hampshire Wildcat had ten points in the first quarter, which ended with the Falcons up eight, 19-11.

A 16-4 Bentley run to start the second quarter produced a 20-point differential, 35-15, with 3:52 left in the first half. Senior guard and co-captain Julia Ford (Charlton, Mass./Noble and Greenough) accounted for seven of the 16 after senior center Monica Viapiano (Holden, Mass./Holy Name HS) scored the first four points.

Bentley's lead peaked at 25 for the first time when Brekke sank a free throw with four minutes left in the third to make it 55-30.

The Lightning outscored the Falcons 19-10 in the fourth, but by that juncture, the Falcon advantage was too big to overcome.

Brekke, whose previous high of 20 was set last year when UNH played Maryland-Baltimore County, made 8 of 14 shots overall and three of her five three-pointers.

Viapiano followed her in the scoring column, with ten points, five rebounds and three steals. Ford scored nine and the Falcons also received eight points apiece from graduate guard Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England) and senior guard Maddy Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H./Conant HS).

Senior guard Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, N.J.) led Goldey-Beacom (0-2) with 24 points, six rebounds and three steals.

Bentley outshot the Lightning, 44-35 percent, and made twice as many three-pointers, 8-4. Rebounds favored the Falcons by a slim margin, 39-36.

The next two for Coach Barbara Stevens' team will be in Florida, beginning Saturday at nationally-ranked Florida Southern.
