BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Graduate guard Becca Musgrove (Plainview, N.Y./St. Anthony's HS) matched her Falcon best with 19 points, including 12 in the opening quarter, and junior center Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) followed with 14 as Bentley University posted a 77-52 win over LIU Post in non-conference women's basketball Sunday afternoon at the Pratt Recreation Center.

Bentley, ranked eighth in the latest WBCA Division II poll, improved to 11-1 while giving coach Barbara Stevens her 994th career victory. LIU Post, which had its winning streak halted at five after being crushed on the boards (53-23), dropped to 8-4 on the season.

The first quarter belonged to Musgrove, whose hometown is only about 15 minutes from the LIU Post campus. With a dozen points, she single-handedly outscored the Pioneers as Bentley opened up an 18-11 lead. Eight of her 12 came during a 12-2 run over the final 4:40.

Bentley carried the momentum over into the second quarter with a 9-2 spurt during the first four minutes doubling the advantage to 14, 27-13. Leading the Falcons in the second was sophomore forward Monica Viapiano (Holden, Mass./Holy Name HS), with six points and six rebounds off the bench.

Late in the third, after the Pioneers reduced a 17-point deficit to nine, Bentley used an 11-1 run to go up 18, 59-41, with less than 30 seconds left until the fourth. Senior guard Trevena Bennett (Union, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's School) launched the run with a three-ball from the left side, and it also included five points from sophomore guard Maddy Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H./Conant HS), including a traditional three-point play off a fast break lay-up.

Bentley graduated built on its lead throughout a fourth quarter in which LIU Post was limited to eight points on 1-for-12 shooting.

Musgrove, whose previous high in a Bentley uniform occurred last month against Stonehill, made 7           of 12 overall, including three of five from deep, and also filled the stat sheet with four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.

Lux made half of her eight field goal attempts and was perfect on six attempts from the foul stripe. She also had five rebounds.

Five other Bentley players scored at least six points with the list headed by senior forward Cassie Smith (Edison, N.J./Metuchen HS) with eight.

Sophomore guard Taylah Hudson (Glen Cove, N.Y.) led the home team with 11 points, all but three coming on free throws. Senior forward Sasha Patterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who came in averaging 17 points and ten boards, was held to eight points and didn't have a single rebound in 20 minutes of action.

Seven Bentley players had at least four rebounds as the Falcons were a dominating +30 on the boards. Viapiano led the way with nine, including four of the team's 18 offensive boards.

Neither club was effective from three (Bentley 5-22, LIU Post 3-25), but the Falcons' superiority inside enabled the Falcons to post a .450 field goal percentage overall. As they had from distance, the Pioneers also struggled inside the arc, finishing at .296 overall.

After an exam and holiday break, Bentley will be back on Long Island for its next game, Dec. 30 at Molloy.
