WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior guard Lauren Green (Damascus, Md./Damascus HS) buried five of seven three-pointers en route to a team-best 19 points, helping Bentley University record a 74-55 win over the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball at the Dana Center Saturday afternoon.

Bentley, which took control during a 28-point second quarter, improved to 12-3 overall and 8-0 in the NE10's Northeast Division. The Falcons, ranked 17th in the WBCA Division II coaches' poll, extended their lead in the division to four games over a quartet of teams. New Haven dropped to 2-11 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Coach Barbara Stevens' team put together runs at the end of each of the first three quarters and as a result, carried a commanding 63-42 lead into the fourth, enabling most of the Falcon starters to rest during the final stanza.

An 11-3 spurt over the final 6:05 of the opening quarter put the Falcons in front for good, 16-10. That stretch began with threes by junior guard Trevena Bennett (Union, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's) and Green.

The final 3:30 of the second saw Bentley close with an 11-2 burst that pushed a six-point advantage to 15, 44-29. Senior All-America forward Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy) had four of the 11 and junior guard Cassie Smith (Edison, N.J./Metuchen HS) chipped in with a three-point play the traditional way.

The run to finish the third was 10-3, and that extended a 14-point lead to 21. Included were Green's final five of the afternoon, including a triple with 37 seconds to play.

During those three quarter-ending stretches, the Bentley defense held the Chargers to 1-for-9 in the first, 1-for-6 in the second and 1-for-6 in the third.

Green, who has 45 points and a dozen three-pointers in her last two games, was joined in doubles by Gemma and sophomore forward Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy). Gemma finished with 14 points, four rebounds and three assists in 22 minutes and Lux provided 10 points, eight rebounds and two helpers in 19 minutes.

For New Haven, sophomore guard Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, N.J.) carried the offensive load, scoring a game-high 21 points. She was 8-for-16 from the floor while her teammates were a combined 13-for-46.

Bentley shot 53 percent overall, including 12-for-18 (.667) in the second while New Haven finished at .339. The Falcons dominated the boards, 42-24, with freshman forward Monica Viapiano (Holden/Holy Name HS) matching Lux's eight, and outscored the Chargers in the paint, 42-24. The home team did commit 24 turns, ten more than the visitors, with 11 coming in the fourth after the outcome had been determined.

Next up for the Falcons is the only regular season match-up with Adelphi with the two NE10 division leaders meeting on Long Island Wednesday evening.
