RINDGE, N.H. – Sophomore Lauren Calabrese (Cave Creek, Ariz,/Boulder Creek HS) pitched a six-hit shutout in game one and freshman Elise Pereira (Plainville, Mass./King Phillip Reg. HS) followed with a five-hit shutout in game two as Bentley University swept Franklin Pierce University, 2-0 and 12-0, in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division softball at the Bisaccia Softball Complex. Game two was halted after five innings due to the run rule.

Calabrese's second career shutout saw her walk four, strike out six and strand nine runners on base, including two in scoring position in the first inning.

The only runs in the game were scored in the fourth inning. Singles and stolen bases by junior left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham Reg. HS) put two runners in scoring position, and junior second basemen Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) drove in Korotsky with the first run with a single up the middle. Hillier made it 2-0 when she came in on a sacrifice fly by junior designated player Jillian Parinello (Jackson, N.J./Jackson HS).

Bentley finished with five hits, including two by Korotsky. She finished the doubleheader with four hits and three runs scored in seven at bats.

The Falcons totaled 14 hits in the second game and received three RBI apiece from Hillier and junior right fielder Sami Palazzolo (East Williston, N.Y./Wheatley School).

Bentley began the scoring with two runs in the second. Slavin reached on a throwing error, junior center fielder Juliana Romeo (Greenville, R.I./Smithfield HS) on a bunt single and both scored on Palazzolo's single up the middle.

A three-run third featured an RBI double to left by Hillier, an RBI triple by Slavin and an RBI single from Slavin.

Bentley broke the game wide open in the third, erupting for six runs. Hiller had a two-run single, Palazzolo drove in her third run of the game with a single and the Falcons took advantage of two Raven errors.

Six different Falcons had two hits, including Hillier, who scored three times and also had her third three-RBI game of her rookie season.

Pereira, who gained her fourth win of the year, walked only one and struck out one.

Bentley improved to 13-19 overall, 9-8 in the NE10 and 5-6 in the Northeast Division while Franklin Pierce, winless in 11 divisional games, dropped to 6-25 overall and 2-15 conference.
