Korotsky Leads Bentley to Wins over Dominican and Slippery Rock

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Senior left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham HS) had three hits in each game, scored five times on the day and drove in a total of five runs as the Bentley University softball extended its winning streak to four with wins over Dominican College (N.Y.), 12-4, and Slippery Rock University, 9-1, during the Spring Games at the Diamond Plex Monday.

The eight-run rule came into effect in both contests with the Dominican game stopped after five and the Slippery Rock game ending in the sixth.

Against Dominican, Bentley erupted for eight runs in the second with Korotsky, graduate second baseman Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) and freshman first baseman Kaylee Mankins (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS) each driving in two runs. Korotsky's came on a single through the right side and Slavin doubled to right.

Mankins singled and scored early in the inning and capped the inning with her first career home run, a two-run shot to center.

Bentley pushed its lead to 11-1 with three runs in the top of the third, including another two-run single by Korotsky.

The Falcons' 11 hits including two apiece from Mankins, sophomore designated player Ella Hillier (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS) and senior center fielder Juliana Romeo (Greenville, R.I./Smithfield HS).

Sophomore Elise Pereira (Plainville, Mass./King Philip Reg. HS) earned her third win of the spring after allowing five hits and two runs in four innings.

Four runs in the fourth against Slippery Rock gave Bentley a 6-1 lead. The inning included RBI singles by junior third baseman Lindsey Allen (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Tech HS), Korotsky and Mankins.

The game ended when Bentley scored three times in the bottom of the sixth, the game-ending hit an RBI double to right by freshman shortstop Katherine Noftall (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich HS).

Bentley, which evened its record at 5-5, finished with 13 hits, including three from Korotsky and two from Allen, Mankins and Romeo. Korotsky scored three times and Mankins had two RBI.

Junior Kayleigh Fitzpatrick (East Hampstead, N.H./Timberlane Reg. HS) pitched a complete-game two-hitter with no walks and four strikeouts.

The Falcons' trip to the Spring Games will resume Wednesday with games against Sioux Falls and Salem (W.V.).
