Slavin Reaches 100 as Bentley Defeats Assumption, 5-1

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior second baseman Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) reached the century mark for career hits and junior lefty Kayleigh Fitzpatrick (East Hampstead, N.H./ Timberlane Reg. HS) pitched a three-hitter as Bentley University defeated Assumption College, 5-2, in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division softball on Marois Field.

Bentley, which won for the seventh time in nine games, moved into fourth place in the Northeast Division with three regular season games left. The Falcons are 18-21 overall, their most wins since 2014, and secured the tie breaker should they finish tied with Assumption (20-19, 9-9 Northeast) in the conference standings. Bentley, 10-8 division, is currently a game ahead of the Hounds.

After giving up a first-inning run, Bentley took the lead with a pair of runs in the second. Junior center fielder Juliana Romeo (Greenville, R.I./Smithfield HS) walked and scored on a ground out, and junior third baseman Kaileigh Serafini (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady HS) had an RBI single to center.

Bentley doubled its run total and stretched its lead to 4-1 with two in the fifth. Slavin had an RBI single, her 99th career hit, and sophomore shortstop Lindsey Allen (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Technical HS) scored on an error.

Slavin's 100th hit came in the seventh, a double to center. Later in the inning, she scored on a single to right center by Romeo.

Bentley's eight hits included two apiece from Slavin, Romeo and junior left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham/Bridgewater-Raynham HS). Korotsky reached 100 last week and Romeo is currently two away from that mark.

Fitzpatrick, who lowered her ERA to 1.81 and earned her second win of the season, did not walk anyone and struck out one.

Bentley will close out the regular season with a three-game series with Saint Anselm, beginning with a single game Thursday at 4. That contest was originally scheduled for Friday but was moved up due to the forecast of rain.
