Korotsky Totals 6 Hits, including 100th Career: Bentley Wins Opener Before Falling in Game 2

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Junior left fielder and leadoff hitter Stacey Korotsky (Raynham, Mass./ Bridgewater-Raynham HS) had four hits, including the 100th of her career, as Bentley University used a 19-hit attack to defeat St. Michael's College, 11-1, in the first game of a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader Friday at Doc Jacobs Field.

Bentley, after winning seven of its previous ten, came up short in game two as the Purple Knights used a three-run third inning to earn a 3-1 victory and a split of the twinbill. Korotsky had two of the team's eight hits to finish the day six-for-nine.

Junior second baseball Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) matched Korotsky's four hits and had three RBI, including a two on her homer in the fourth. Her home run was Bentley's second of the game, coming an inning after junior center fielder Juliana Romeo (Greenville, R.I./ Smithfield HS) had a three-run shot down the left field line.

Romeo's fifth career home run made it a 5-1 game and the Falcons broke it open with two more in the fourth and a four-run seventh inning.

The Falcons' 19 hits were their most since they had the same number against Aquinas College in 2004 and their 25 total bases was their highest since 2010.

Bentley also had two hits from sophomore shortstop Lindsey Allen (Worcester, Mass./ Worcester Technical HS), junior first baseman Gabby Casalino (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West HS) and junior right fielder Sami Palazzolo (East Williston, N.Y./Wheatley School).

Sophomore right-hander Ashley Keegan (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic HS) went the distance for Bentley in the center circle and picked up her eighth win of the season. She scattered six hits and struck out a career-high eight.

In game two, Bentley took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Romeo reached on an infield single and stole second  before scoring on a single through the eight side by junior third baseman Kaileigh Serafini (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady HS).

St. Michael's (3-27, 2-13 NE10 Northeast) answered with three runs in the third as the Purple Knights took advantage of two Falcon throwing errors. Two of the three were unearned.

The Falcons stranded nine, were only 3-for-17 with runners on base and struck out nine times against St. Michael's junior Torie Rathwell (Guilderland, N.Y.).

The outcome left Bentley in a tie for fifth place in the Northeast Division with records of 16-21 overall and 8-8 overall. The top four qualify for the NE10 postseason tournament.

Five regular season games remain beginning with the finale of the St. Michael's series, Monday at 5 pm at Southern New Hampshire.
