9th Inning Run Lifts Bentley Past California (Pa.); Falcon Fall to Le Moyne in 2nd Game

CLERMONT, Fla. – Junior right fielder Sami Palazzolo (East Williston, N.Y./Wheatley School) scored on a ninth-inning error to give the Bentley University softball team its first win of the season, 6-5 over California University (Pa.), in non-conference action Sunday morning at the Legends Way Softball Complex.

The second game of the day didn't go as well with the Falcons dropping a 5-3 decision to Le Moyne College after the Dolphins scored twice in the seventh.

In the bottom of ninth, with Palazzolo placed on second due to the international tie breaker, junior second baseman Kaileigh Serafini (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady HS) attempted to sacrifice. The catcher misplayed the ball and Palazzolo raced home with the game-winner.

The Falcons had twice previously taken the lead in the game. Three runs in the second made it 3-1 and two in the fourth put Bentley up 5-2.it

In the second, junior designated player Jillian Parinello (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial HS) had an RBI double to center, junior first baseman Gabby Casalino (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West HS) scored on an error and Serafini had a sacrifice fly.

Parinello had another RBI double in the fourth and scored the Falcons' fifth run of the game on an error.

Cal-PA drew within one with a two-run homer by junior left fielder Sierra Besser-Paul (Montreal, Que.) in the sixth and got the equalizer in the seventh on a one-out single by senior center fielder Abby Sachse (Sugarloaf, Pa.).

Bentley's eight hits included two apiece by Parinello and junior left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater Raynham HS). Sophomore Ashley Keegan (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic HS) earned the win with a complete-game, five-strikeout performance.

After an error started the inning, a two-run double to left by Le Moyne sophomore shortstop Kaily LaForce (Binghamton, N.Y.) broke the tie and propelled the Dolphins to the 5-3 victory.

Bentley struck for three unearned runs in the second with Korotsky driving in one and the other two scoring on a throwing error. Le Moyne matched the Falcons in the fourth with each of their runs unearned as well.

Korotsky turned in her second two-hit game of the day and the Falcons also received two hits from junior shortstop Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS).

Bentley, 1-6, returns to action Tuesday with games against the University of Bridgeport (9 am) and Caldwell University (11:15 am).
