Bentley Falls Twice During 1st Day of Spring Games; Allen Leads Falcons with 4 Hits

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Bentley University softball team scored first in both games but came up empty during its first day of play in The Spring Games at the Osceola Softball Complex Saturday, with the Falcons falling to Mercy College, 5-1, and LIU Post, 10-2 in six innings.

Bentley totaled 13 hits in the two games with sophomore Lindsey Allen (Worcester, Mass./ Worcester Technical HS)  leading the offense with four hits in seven at bats.

Against 9-5 Mercy, Allen reached on an infield single in the bottom of the first and took second on a passed ball. Junior shortstop Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) followed with a single through the right side, scoring Allen with the game's first run.

The Mavericks answered with a pair of unearned runs in the second and took charge of the game with three runs in the fifth. Senior designated player Kaylee Stevens (Simi Valley, Calif.) had a two-run double and scored the game's final run on a ground out.

Freshman Katelyn Shephard (Beaumont, Calif.), 4-0 on the season, went the distance for the victory, scattering eight hits and striking out seven.

In addition to three hits by Allen, junior left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham, Mass./ Bridgewater-Raynham HS) and freshman Ella Hillier (Tualitin, Ore./Tualitin HS) had two for the Falcons.

After an RBI single by Hillier staked Bentley to a 1-0 lead against LIU Post, the Pioneers scored twice in the second, third and fourth innings. The game ended after LIU Post (6-3) put up four runs in the sixth to make it an eight-run difference.

Junior center fieJder Abbey Fortin (Langley, B.C.), sophomore first baseman Hanna Finkelstein (Richmond, B.C.) and junior Megan Sneedon (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) all had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI to lead LIU Post to the victory. .Both Forton and Finkelstein homered twice.

From the center circle, junior righty Katie Humhej (Surrey, B.C.) authored a five-hitter for her fifth win of the season.

Bentley, 0-5, will be back in action Sunday with games against California (Pa.) (9:45 am) and Le Moyne (2:30 pm) in Clermont.
