Rollins Rallies to Edge Bentley in 8, 2-1

WINTER PARK, Fla. – After Bentley University broke a scoreless deadlock with a run in the top of the eighth, the Rollins College Tars countered with two in the bottom of the eighth to post a 2-1 extra-inning victory over the Falcons in non-conference college softball action Saturday morning at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park.

The international tiebreaker went into effect in the eight with junior left fielder Stacey Korotsky (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham HS) placed on second. Sophomore third baseman Lindsay Allen (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Technical HS) sacrificed her to third and she scored on a throwing error after a grounder to third by junior shortstop Julie Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS).

In the bottom of the inning with a runner on third after a sacrifice, senior first baseman Brianna Ernst (Homestead, Fla.) singled through the left side to drive in the tying run. Following a single and a fielder's choice, sophomore third baseman Tania Kentoffio scored the game-winner on a single through the right side by junior pinch-hitter Amanda Guglietta (Miami, Fla.).

Both teams had numerous scoring opportunities during regulation. The Falcons left two in scoring position in the sixth and also stranded two in the second and fifth Meanwhile, Rollins had the bases loaded in the fourth and left two on in both the sixth and seventh.

Bentley's only hit of the game was a fifth inning single by Korotsky.

Freshman Elise Pereira (Plainville, Mass./King Philip Reg. HS) was the hard-luck loser in her collegiate debut. She went the distance, struck out three and scattered eight hits and four walks.

For 5-0 Rollins, freshman righty Ashley Worrell (Oviedo, Fla.) earned her third win of the young season with three innings of relief.

Bentley, 0-3, will return to Florida for 12 games in Clermont March 9-15.
