EASTON, Mass. – Outfielders Shannon Connor (West Haven, Conn./West Haven HS), Kelsey Kennedy (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS) and Chelsea Vena (Matawan, N.J./Saint John Vianney HS) each drove in two runs as Bentley University bounced back from a 2-0 game one loss to take the nightcap, 6-4, in a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Gartland Field.

Bentley, 6-1 in its last seven games, improved to 11-15 overall and 8-9 in divisional play. Stonehill finished the day at 18-13 overall and 11-7 in the Northeast.

In game two, Bentley jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third on the strength of the first home run of the season by Kennedy, a sophomore center fielder.

After three unearned runs by Stonehill in the bottom half of that inning, the Falcons countered in their next at bat to regain the lead, 4-3.

Junior shortstop Alex Borrelli (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic HS) walked, junior first baseman Morgan Mazone (Selkirk, N.Y./Bethlehem Central HS) singled and both were in scoring position after a wild pitch. A two-out double by Vena, a sophomore right fielder, scored both to tie the game and Vena scored the go-ahead run on a single to center by Connor, a senior left fielder. .

Bentley added two insurance runs in the sixth, scoring on RBI singles to left by Kennedy and Connor.

Connor, who moved into a tie for sixth on Bentley's career hit list with 135, had a third of Bentley's nine hits, and Kennedy was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Sophomore lefty Kelsey Smith (Conant, N.H./Jaffrey HS) improved to 6-1 with the win and junior lefty Kelly Ferris (Seymour, Conn./Seymour HS) got the final seven outs for her eighth career save, extending her own school record.

Both runs in game one were scored in the fifth after Ferris pitched out of bases-loaded jams in the previous two innings.

Junior center fielder Lauren Esposito (Middlefield, Conn.) led off with a single to center and was sacrificed to second. Sophomore shortstop Carbone (Deer Parl, N.Y.) singled up the middle, driving in Esposito, and later scored the Skyhawks' second run on an outfield error.

Ferris turned in a solid effort for the Falcons, holding Stonehill to six hits and one earned run while striking out five in six innings. But she couldn't match Skyhawk junior Megan Ruonavaara (Rocky Hill, Conn.), who allowed only three hits while pitching her team's fourth consecutive shutout. Now 6-2 on the season, she walked two and didn't have a strikeout

Smith, the team's designated player in the opener, had two of Bentley's three hits, giving her nine in her last 16 at bats.

Bentley will finish the regular season with four at home this weekend, beginning with a 3 pm encounter against nationally-ranked Southern New Hampshire Friday.
