Bentley Wins A Pair in Florida With Four Different Players Driving in Two

CLERMONT,  Fla. – Junior outfielders Jackie Gauthier (Braintree, Mass./Braintree HS) and Chelsea Tamuk (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Earl L. Vandermeulen HS) each drove in two runs in a 6-3 win over the University of Bridgeport, and senior second baseman Laura McDonough (Braintree, Mass./Braintree HS) and freshman shortstop Alex Borrelli (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic HS) did the same in a 4-1 win over Alderson-Broaddus as the Bentley University softball team posted a pair of victories Sunday at the National Training Center.

Senior Carly Taitz (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point HS) came out of the bullpen in both, throwing a total of four scoreless innings while saving the Bridgeport game for sophomore Caitlin Betz (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) and winning the nightcap. She struck out five in the two appearances and allowed only one hit and one walk.

Against Bridgeport, Bentley grabbed a 3-0 lead with three unearned runs in the second inning. Gauthier had an RBI double and Tamuk followed with a two-run single.

Another unearned run in the third made it 4-0, and the Falcons completed their scoring with a pair of runs in the fifth. Senior catcher Erica Thibodeau (Cohoes, N.Y./Shaker HS) put down a bunt that scored sophomore outfielder Shannon Connor (West Haven, Conn./West Haven HS), and Gauthier had an RBI single later in the inning.

A three-run fifth broke a 1-1 tie with Alderson-Broaddus and propelled the Falcons to their second win of the day. Borelli put the Falcons in front with a two-run triple to center, and McDonough followed with an RBI single to left.

Gauthier had three of the Falcons' seven hits in the first game, and McDonough did the same against the Battlers.

Bentley, 2-1, will be in action twice again on Monday, taking on Molloy College at 9 am and Mercy College at 11.
