Ford Homers Twice, Powering Le Moyne to Doubleheader Sweep of Bentley, 8-0 & 6-1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Junior first baseman Leah Ford (Pulaski, N.Y.) homered in both games and drove in a total of four runs as Le Moyne College swept Bentley University, 8-0 and 6-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the Niland Athletic Complex. The first game was halted after the Dolphin lead reached eight in the sixth inning.

Le Moyne (16-20-1, 14-10-1 NE-10) pounded out 10 hits in each game and also received quality pitching all afternoon. Freshman lefty Sarah Harrison (Cobleskill, N.Y.) authored a two-hitter with nine strikeouts in the opener and completed the nightcap with two scoreless innings, earning her first career save. Vanessa Utley (Monroe, Ga.), also a freshman, won game two with five innings of three-hit pitching.

Le Moyne grabbed the game one lead with a four-run third inning. Following an infield single and a hit batter, freshman second baseman Liz Weber (Bay Shore, N.Y.) cleared the left field fence for a three-run homer. Later in the inning, Harrison helped herself with an RBI single.

Ford and junior shortstop Barb Shea (Clifton Park, N.Y.) each had an RBI during a two-run fourth, and Ford finished the game with a two-run homer to left center in the sixth.

Bentley (14-24, 7-21 NE-10) got on the scoreboard first in game two with a third-inning run. A sacrifice fly by freshman Chelsea Tamuk (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Earl L. Vandermeulen HS) drove in the Falcons' only run of the day, with sophomore second baseman Erica Thibodeau (Cohoes, N.Y./Shaker HS) scoring after a lead-off walk.

A Ford home run in the bottom of the same inning evened the game and Le Moyne grabbed the lead with two runs in the fourth, both scoring on a pinch-hit single through the left side by junior Amanda Mosich (Penn Yan, N.Y.).  Another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth provided some insurance.

Sophomore shortstop Stephanie Kasson (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS) singled in both games for Bentley, boosting her team-best average to .350.

Bentley finishes its season on Sunday with a 12 noon doubleheader at The College of Saint Rose.
