Andrews, Stryker Lead Stonehill Past Bentley Twice, 5-0 & 12-4; Blier Homers for Bentley

EASTON, Mass. -- Junior Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson) pitched a one-hitter in the opener and junior shortstop Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y.) had six hits in the doubleheader as Stonehill College swept Bentley University, 5-0 and 12-4, in Northeast-10 Conference softball Monday afternoon at Father Gartland Field.

The opener saw Andrews strike out seven and walk just one en route to her first shutout of the season. Her no-hit bid was ended by her former high school teammate, junior center fielder Meghan Carter (Hudson/Hudson HS), with a single to center with two outs in the fourth.

Andrews received more than enough offensive support in the third when her team scored twice. Stryker drove in the game's first run with a single to center, and scored later in the inning on a single up the middle by senior left fielder Katy Abarr (Richmond, R.I.).

Stonehill (14-20, 10-8 NE-10) built on its lead with three more runs in the fourth. Sophomore center fielder Courtney Marchand (Danville, N.H.) had a two-run single and Stryker made it 5-0 with an RBI single.

The Skyhawks pounded out 21 hits in the nightcap, which was stopped after six innings. They  opened a 7-0 lead with four runs in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth, and after Bentley closed to within three, ended the game with a five-run sixth.

Stryker was 4-for-5, and both Abarr and freshman Brianna Gunter (Amherst, N.H.) had three hits for the Skyhawks. Eight different players had at least one RBI, with sophomore Kelsey Wilcox (Canterbury, Conn.) leading the way with three.

Bentley junior Megan Blier (Wells, Maine/Wells HS) slammed a three-run homer in the fifth inning. It was her third of the season and fifth of her career, tying her for second on the Falcons' all-time list.

Bentley's seven hits included two apiece by sophomore shortstop Stephanie Kasson (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS) and freshman first baseman Samantha Tierney (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketchum HS).

The Falcons (10-18, 3-15 NE-10) will be back at home on Wednesday for a 3 pm doubleheader against UMass-Lowell.
