NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Junior Brittany Hill (Durham, Conn.) pitched a one-hit shutout in the opener and classmate Jayme Larson (Aurora, Colo.) followed with a no-hitter in the nightcap as Southern Connecticut State swept Bentley University, 5-0 and 6-0, in Northeast-10 Conference softball Sunday afternoon at Pelz Field.

Hill finished game one with two walks and two strikeouts. The only Falcon hit was an infield single to lead off the contest by sophomore shortstop Stephanie Kasson (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS).

Larson allowed only two base runners in game two, a hit batter in the first inning and a walk in the fourth.  She struck out 14 hitters, including the side in the first and third innings.

In game one, the Owls (17-14, 10-6 NE-10) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Sophomore right fielder Brittany Bucko (Wallington, N.J.) doubled to left, was sacrificed to third and scored on a single to left by senior second baseman Robin Priest (Cheshire, Conn.).

In the fifth, Southern broke the game open with a three-run homer by junior shortstop Jillian Thibault (Ballston Spa, N.Y.)

Sophomore third baseman Alyssa Downs (Seymour, Conn.) led Southern offensively in the nightcap. She doubled and scored the game's first run on an illegal pitch in the second inning, and had a two-run double during a five-run third inning. Junior designated player Jessica Rosa (Wallingford, Conn.) also had a two-run double during that frame.

Bentley (10-16, 3-13 NE-10) concludes an eight-game road trip with a 3 pm doubleheader at Stonehill College on Monday.
