Durso (No-Hitter) and Boris (4 RBI) Propel Assumption to Sweep of Bentley, 9-0 and 7-1

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Junior pitcher Chelsea Durso (Salem, N.H.) tossed her second no-hitter in four days in the opener and freshman right fielder Nicole Boris (Gardner) slammed a three-run homer in the nightcap as Assumption College swept Bentley University, 9-0 and 7-1, in Northeast-10 Conference softball Saturday afternoon at Bentley. The opening game was halted after five innings of play.

Assumption improved to 11-10 overall and 5-3 in the NE-10 with the two victories while Bentley dipped to 9-7 overall and 2-4 NE-10.

In game one, Durso allowed only two walks while striking out eight of the 17 Bentley hitters who stepped to the plate. Earlier this week, she had no-hit Adelphi University in the first half of a conference twinbill.

Her teammates supported her with a dozen hits, eight of which went for extra bases (seven doubles, one triple). Lead-off hitter Tanya Robidoux (Hooksett, N.H.) had three hits, including two doubles, and eight of the nine Assumption players who stepped to the plate scored at least once. Senior third baseman Ashley Bilodeau (Manchester, Conn.) drove in a team-high two runs.

Assumption got on the board with two runs in the third, added one in the fourth and broke it open with a six-run fifth, all six unearned.

In the second game, Assumption rode the four-hit pitching of junior Casey Halajian (Quincy). She struck out eight while winning her second game of the season.

On top 2-1, the Hounds struck for two in the fourth to make it a three-run game Sophomore second baseman Lauren Medeiros (Seekonk) had her second RBI single of the game and sophomore left fielder Melissa Jalbert (Gardner) stole home for the fourth Assumption run. Boris put the capper on the sweep with a three-run homer to left in the seventh.  She had a total of four RBI in the two games.

Bentley's only run of the day was scored in the third inning. Freshman Samantha Tierney (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketchum HS) led off with a double to left, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on another ground ball out.

Tierney had two of Bentley's four hits in the game as she also singled in the fifth inning.

Bentley's two pitchers, junior Tara Fogarty (Chester, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic HS) and sophomore Lindsey Theriault (Burlington/Brooks School), both had notable accomplishments despite taking the loss. Fogarty, who allowed only two earned runs, struck out five and is now tied with Lara Morgillo (1989-91) for the most in school history with 226. Theriault fanned 11, a career best.

Bentley is back at home on Sunday for a 12 noon twinbill with American International College.
