Fogarty Authors Two-Hit Shutout as Bentley Softball Wins Opener, 2-0 over St. Thomas Aquinas

CLERMONT, Fla. – Junior Tara Fogarty (Chester, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic HS) pitched a two-hit shutout as the Bentley University softball team opened its season with an 8-0 shutout of St. Thomas Aquinas University Saturday evening at the National Training Center. The game was halted following six innings.

Fogarty allowed only two base runners, both coming on doubles, one in the second inning and one in the sixth. She struck out eight in the contest.

Bentley's offense was led by sophomore shortstop and leadoff hitter Stephanie Kasson (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS). She was three-for-four with three runs scored.

Bentley jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third with Kasson scoring the team's first run of the season on a single by junior catcher Megan Blier (Wells, Maine/Wells HS). The Falcons broke it open with four runs in the fourth and made it 8-0 with two in the top of the eighth.

Blier was the only other Falcon with multiple hits, finishing with two.
