Bentley Men Finish 2nd in Kirsh Cup after Dropping Tiebreaker to SNHU

HOPKINTON, N.H. – The Bentley University men's cross country team placed second among 11 teams in the Kirsch Cup Saturday morning at the State Fairgrounds after being bested by Southern New Hampshire University in a tiebreaker.

After both teams finished even with a score of 70, they went head-to-head with each squad's top-five runners. SNHU had the higher finish in three of the match-ups and Bentley twice. The meet's top five also included Adelphi University (78), Wilmington University (Del.) (109) and the host team, Franklin Pierce University (112).

Bentley's runners ran in a pack with the top seven reaching the finish line separated by just about 30 seconds. The spread among the Falcons' top five was less than four seconds.

Junior Ryan Cadorette (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) was Bentley's number one runner, placing 13th overall in 26:48.4 for 8,000 meters. He edged senior teammate Graham Chapski (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich HS), who was 14th, by just half of a second.

Bentley also had the next three finishers with junior Seamus Higgins (Randolph, N.J./ Randolph HS) 15th (26:51.2), senior Erik Alatalo (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington HS) 16th (26:52.2) and sophomore Cody Murphy (Dunbarton, N.H./Goffstown HS) 17th (26:52.7).

Rounding out Bentley's top seven were senior Tim Bolick (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) in 19th (27:06.6) and freshman Thomas Abraham (Lowell, Mass./Lowell HS) in 20th (27:18.5).

Wilmington's Isaac Ndirangu was the individual champion as he outran Andrew Coelho, who was competing unattached, by 1.1 seconds with a winning time of 25:49.1.

Next up for the Falcons is the Trevecca Division II Showcase next Saturday in Louisville, Ky.
