This Day in Bentley History: May 27, 2017 -- Sihvonen Finishes 9th in NCAA Championships, Earns 2nd Team All-America Honors

On this day in 2017, Bentley University junior Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) earned second-team All-America honors by finishing ninth in the javelin at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

Sihvonen's best throw, occurring on his third attempt of the afternoon, covered 210 feet, one inch and earned him a trip to the championship round by just one inch over Lock Haven University's Rahjeir Miles-Eubanks.

Sihvonen opened with throws of 198'0" and 209'2" before exceeding 210 feet for just the second time in his career.

In the finals, Sihvonen had just one throw that counted, 206'1". He fouled on his other two attempts. He concluded the competition two feet back of the number eight finisher, Jacob Rogers of Alabama-Huntsville.

Nils Fischer, a freshman of Angelo State, captured the national championship with a distance of 246'2", winning by nearly 14 feet.
