SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bentley University junior Holt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn./Lyman Memorial HS) shattered his own school record and elevated himself into the ranks of the premier javelin throwers in Division II with an outstanding performance Sunday in the Black and Gold Invitational at Bryant University Sunday.

Sihvonen finished second overall, behind Rhode Island's Greg McManus, with his throw of 214 feet, 10 inches breaking the school record of 200'8.25" he set last April at Connecticut College. It was the best posted in the Northeast-10 Conference this season and put him at number six on this spring's NCAA Division II performance list. And to add more perspective, it would have been good for fifth place at last May's NCAA Division II National Championships.

Also in the javelin, Bentley sophomore Anthony Giesing (Bradford, Vt./Oxbow HS) moved to seventh on the NE-10 list with a throw of 167'1". That improved on his previous best by nearly 10 feet and was good for tenth in a field of 14.

Bentley's lone victory in the meet came with a time of 7:59.71 in the 4x800 relay. Senior Tim Bolick (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) led off and was followed by junior Graham Chapski (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich HS), freshman Ben Edwards (Morristown, N.J./Morristown HS) and senior Nik Haas (Ramsey, N.J./ Ramsey HS).

Bolick also excelled in the 1500, an event that also included Haas and Edwards. He finished in 3:58.64 to place fourth among 48 runners and improve on his PR by 5.76 seconds. It put him at 12th on Bentley's all-time performance list and number four on this season's NE10 list.

Haas was the eighth man across the line with his 4:03.17 sixth best in the conference this season, and Edwards finished 12th in 4:06.97.

Junior Nick Skarin (Sunapee, N.H./Sunapee HS) moved to fourth on the NE10 list in the 800, finished sixth in a field of 27 with a 1:56.29. He was also part of the Falcons' 4x400 relay team that was sixth overall in 3:29.60, a time that ranks second in the conference so far. That relay also included senior David Stoffel (Luxembourg), freshman Josh Gettings (Lowell, Mass./Lowell HS) and junior Ben Brayton (Middleboro, Mass./Middleboro HS).

Gettings was also fifth in the 400 hurdles, his 58.98 clocking best in the NE10 to date. Another fifth for the Falcons came from freshman Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) with a distance of 19'9.5" in the long jump. Junior Dillon Sylvester (Franklin, N.H./Franklin HS) achieved a PR (16.83 seconds) and the conference's second best time of the spring while finishing ninth in the 110 meter hurdles.

Bentley totaled 39 points in the meet to finish eighth of nine overall. The top four, headed by URI, were all Division I institutions.
