Shevlin, Hurwitz Qualify for NE10 Finals; Fraser Breaks School Record

BOSTON. Mass. – Bentley University juniors Brian Shevlin (Floral Park, N.Y./Chaminade HS) and Sydney Hurwitz (Newton/Newton North HS) qualified for Friday's finals with their performances Thursday during day one of the Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Shevlin was fifth among qualifiers in the 60 meter hurdles with his time of 7.05 seconds matching his personal best and tied for the third best in program history. Shevlin was also 14th of 22 in the 200 with a 23.37.

In the women's 60 hurdles, Hurwitz qualified and sophomore Chase Davies (Marblehead/ Marblehead HS) narrowly missed with a ninth place finish. Due to a timing issue, official times are not available.

Senior Kayla Fraser (East Longmeadow/East Longmeadow HS) missed a top-eight finish in the pentathlon by one place, but broke Tatiana Froehlich's five-year-old school record by 12 points with a score of 2,470.  Fraser achieved new PR's in four of the five events with performances of 10.72 in the 60 hurdles, 4'5.5" in the high jump, 29'4.5" in the shot put and 2:49.79 in the 800.

Freshman Julia Hultin (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) posted a PR of 224.68 in the 800, placing 12th among 20 with her time of 2:24.68 improving on her previous best by nearly three seconds.

On the men's side, senior Alex Arnold (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) wrapped up his collegiate indoor career by placing tenth in both the 60 (7.14) and 200 (22.86) and finishing 14th in the long jump (20'7.75"). He missed advancing by one-hundredth of a second in the 60 and 0.13 seconds in the 200.

Senior Shawn Andrade (Suffield, Conn./Suffield HS) missed scoring in the 800 by 1.13 seconds with his 1:59.74 good for ninth place. It also improved on his personal best by 1.20 seconds.

In the 60 hurdles, junior Antonio Catino (North Reading/North Reading HS) was tenth of 19 with an 8.87.

The championships continue on Friday, beginning at noon.
