Bentley Drops NE10 Semifinal Match to Southern New Hampshire 5-1

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Top seeded Southern New Hampshire knocked No. 5 seed Bentley out of the Northeast-10 Men's Tennis Championships with a 5-1 victory in the semifinals on Thursday.

The match had an early 9:00 am start and was moved indoors to the Executive Health and Sports Center.

Bentley trailed just 2-1 after the doubles matches, but the Penmen closed it out in singles by winning all three of the matches that finished.

The Falcons' No. 1 team of seniors Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao) earned the point, as they defeated the Penmen's No. 1 team of Xavier Aubron and Bas Van Biezen, 9-7.

The other two doubles matches went SNHU's way. In No. 2, Ricardo and Miguel Marreiros defeated Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.H./Mahwah) and Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) 8-2, and in No. 3, Tiago Fernandes and Jeremy Reichentahl defeated Dylan Granat (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) and Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) 8-4.

In the singles matches, SNHU came away with the No. 1, 2 and 3 matches. The No. 2 match was a battle between Samander and Ricardo Marreiros that went three sets. Samander won the first set 6-4, but Marreiros rallied in the next two sets, 6-3, 6-3. The other two matches were in straight sets, Fernandes over McCarthy in No. 1, 6-2, 6-0, and Miguel Marreiros over Granat in No. 3, 6-2, 6-2.

SNHU, which was ranked 4th in the East Region, moves on to Saturday's final where they will meet either Merrimack or Le Moyne. Bentley, which advanced to the semis with a 5-1 victory over Franklin Pierce in the first round, sees its record drop to 15-10.
