Bentley Tripped up by Southern N.H. 6-3

WALTHAM, Mass. – In matchup of two teams battling for Northeast-10 playoff positioning, Southern New Hampshire came away with a 6-3 victory over Bentley on Thursday afternoon.

The Penmen maintained their perfect NE10 record and are now 8-0, while the Falcons dropped to 4-4 with just one match remaining. That takes place on Saturday when they host Adelphi at noon.

In this match, SNHU gained the early advantage through doubles by winning two of three, then did enough in singles with four wins.

Bentley's point in doubles came in the No. 2 position, courtesy of the team of Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) and Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah), who defeated Ricardo Marreiros and Miguel Marreiros in a match that went to a tiebreak, 9-8 (7-2).

In singles, Bentley saw wins from freshman Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) and Gilman. Weitz defeated Xavier Aubron in No. 4, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, to improve to 17-3 in singles overall on the season. Gilman got the better of Jeremy Reichentahl in No. 6, 6-4, 6-2.

The No.2 match was a battle between Bentley's George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao) and Ricardo Marreiros that went to three sets. Samander won the first set in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-1), but Marreiros rallied for the second set 6-3, and the third set tiebreak 10-5.
