Bentley Rolls Past Assumption 7-2 in Northeast-10 Action

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Bentley won two of three in doubles and five of six in singles to take a 7-2 decision over Assumption in Northeast-10 men's tennis action on Thursday at the Mount Auburn Club in Watertown.

The Falcons improved to 12-6 overall and 4-2 NE10 with just three conference matches left.

Senior George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao) won in both singles and doubles to pace the Bentley effort.

Samander and reigning NE10 Player of the Week Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) won the No. 1 doubles match 8-7 over opponents Ryan Foster and Max Francis. Bentley's other point in doubles came in the No. 3 match, as the team of Nick Hatcher (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate) and Kendall Au (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) blanked Erich Steiner and Luke Whitehouse 8-0.

In singles, Samander banked his second point of the day with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Francis in No. 2. In No. 3, junior Dylan Granat (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) battled back from dropping the first set to record a 0-6, 6-4, 10-8 win. Freshman Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) defeated Reb Mariano 6-3, 6-1 in the No.4 match, while junior Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) got the better of Steiner 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 match. Fellow junior Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Whitehouse in No. 6.

Bentley will look for its fourth straight win on Saturday when they visit Franklin Pierce.
