Merrimack Takes 6-3 Match over Bentley

BEVERLY, Mass. – Freshman Connor Aulson (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) extended his singles winning streak to eight, but Merrimack took a 6-3 decision over Bentley in a Northeast-10 men's tennis match at the indoor Bass River Tennis Club.

Merrimack won four of six in singles to add to its advantage from winning two of three doubles matches.

Bentley's points in singles came from Aulson in the No. 6 match and junior Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) in the No.5 match. Aulson defeated Paul Weidinger 6-3, 7-5, while Fuca defeated Tyler Clontz 6-4, 6-4.

Merrimack had to work for its wins in singles, particularly in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. Mikhail Below snuck past Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) in the No. 1 match 6-4, 6-4, and Alex Fedorov battled past Dylan Granat (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) in three sets in the No.3 match, 3-6, 7-6, 6-1.

Bentley's point in doubles came from Fuca and Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) in the No. 3 match, 8-5 over Weidinger and Frank Vega.

Bentley's record dropped to 9-6 overall and 1-2 NE10. They will be back on the courts on March 28 to face Saint Anselm after their scheduled match with Assumption on Saturday was postponed.
