Bentley Sweeps Past USciences in Florida, 9-0

ORLANDO, Fla. – Bentley won its third straight match on its Florida trip Thursday night with a 9-0 sweep of USciences at the USTA National Campus.

The Falcons were impressive in the doubles portion of the match, as their three teams dropped just three games combined. The No. 2 team on the night of Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) and Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) swept their opponents 8-0 to highlight the effort.

In singles play, junior Dylan Granat (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) again emerged with a victory in a marathon third set tiebreak. Playing in the No. 4 match against Chandat Phan, he won the first set 6-0, before Phan rallied to take the second set 7-6. Granat though outlasted Phan in a 22-point tiebreak to win it 12-10 to take the match.

Other action in singles saw Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth), George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao), Fuca and Kendall Au (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) all have convincing wins. McCarthy, Samander and Fuca took the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 matches, respectively, all by a 6-1, 6-1 score. Au dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 6 match.

The Falcons are now 8-4 overall and 3-1 on the Florida trip after the win. They will play their final match of the trip on Saturday against Bloomsburg at the USTA National Campus.
