BC Tops Bentley in Falcons’ Spring Opener; Weitz Wins in Singles

 

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The men's tennis team opened up its spring season against a heavy hitter in the Boston College Eagles of the ACC, and it was the Division I team that came away with a 6-1 victory over Bentley on Sunday. Freshman Daniel Weitz (Roslyn, N.Y./Roslyn) won in No. 3 singles for the Falcons.

BC, which improved to 5-2 on the season, swept the doubles matches and took five of six in singles. Bentley was playing its first match of the spring after going 3-1 in the fall.

Weitz defeated freshman Santiago Montufar in a tiebreak. Weitz took the first set 6-4 and Montufar got the second set 6-2. Weitz though battled to the victory in the tiebreak by a 10-8 score to take the match.

Junior Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) also went to a tiebreak, but ultimately fell to junior Peter Campana. They split the first two sets 6-4 each, with Fuca winning the first set. However, Campana emerged in the tiebreak by a 10-8 score.

Sunday's match was the first of four for Bentley this week as they get the spring season going. The team is next in action on Wednesday at MIT, before playing at Saint Michael's and Endicott on the weekend.
