Bentley Downs Assumption 8-1 to Clinch Playoff Spot

WORCESTER, Mass. – An 8-1 victory by the Bentley men's tennis team on Tuesday wrapped up a Northeast-10 playoff spot for the Falcons. Five different players won in both singles and doubles.

The win improved Bentley's Northeast-10 record to 5-3 with one match left in the regular season, which is Friday at Southern New Hampshire.

Junior Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) was among the five Falcons to win twice on the day. He posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory in No. 1 singles over Chris Waung, and in doubles teamed with George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao/ISC) for an 8-6 win in the No. 1 position over Waung and Marco Leung.

Chase Rosa (Hampton, N.H./Berwick) and Dylan Granat (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) also took two wins on the day. They teamed for an 8-4 victory in No. 2 doubles over Ryan Foster and Danny Waung. In singles, Granat defeated Leung in the No. 3 position, 6-4, 6-2, and Rosa knocked off Danny Waung in the No. 4 match, 6-2, 6-3.

Classmates Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) and Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) combined for an 8-0 sweep in the No. 3 doubles match over Tom Knight and Casey Hodor. Singles play saw Fuca defeat Hodor in the No. 5 match, 6-2, 6-0, and Gilman drop just one game to Knight in the No. 6 match, 6-0, 6-1.

Friday's regular season finale at Southern New Hampshire gets underway at 3:00 pm.
