Stonehill Clips Bentley in Northeast-10 Battle, 5-4

EASTON, Mass. – Stonehill used a 2-1 advantage from doubles to clip the Bentley men's tennis team 5-4 on Saturday afternoon in matchup of top Northeast-10 teams.

The Skyhawks won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to lead 2-1 going into singles. The teams split the six singles matches 3-3, which allowed the hosts to come away with the narrow 5-4 decision.

Bentley's point in doubles came from the team of Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex) and Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah), who defeated Jeff Gagnon and Dimitri Vlassov in the No. 3 match, 8-3.

When play switched to singles, Bentley came away with points in the No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 matches. In the No. 2 position, George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao/ISC) defeated Nikolay Lisichenok 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). Fuca claimed his second win of the day in the No. 5 spot, with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Gagnon. Gilman also claimed his second point of the match when he defeated Aaron Diamond by a 6-2, 6-2 score in the No. 6 match.

The defeat snapped Bentley's five match winning streak, and dropped its records to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in NE10 matches. They return to the courts on Tuesday when they visit Adelphi for a 2:00 pm match.
