Bentley Rolls Past Franklin Pierce, 8-1

FRANKLIN, Mass. – Three different players won in both singles and doubles to lead Bentley University to an 8-1 victory over Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 match on Tuesday afternoon at the Adirondack Club.

The Falcons, who have won four straight, built on a 2-1 lead from doubles with a sweep of the six singles matches. The trio to win in both matches was juniors Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao/ISC) and sophomore Michael Fuca (Manchester, Mass./Manchester-Essex).

McCarthy and Samander combined for an 8-4 victory in the No. 1 doubles match, while Fuca teamed with Brett Gilman (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) for an 8-2 triumph in the No. 3 match.

In singles, McCarthy swept to a 6-1, 6-3 win in the top match, while Samander went three sets in the No. 2 match, but emerged a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 winner. Fuca rallied in the No. 3 match after he dropped the first set, but took it in three sets, 6-7, 6-4, 10-2.

Also victorious for the Falcons in singles was Chase Rosa (Hampton, N.H./Berwick) in the No. 4 match, 6-3, 6-2, Kendall Au (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) in the No. 5 match, 6-1, 6-0, and Nick Hatcher (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate) in the No. 6 match, 6-4, 6-0.

Bentley improved to 7-5 overall on the season and 2-1 in NE10 matches. They'll return to the courts tomorrow against Saint Michael's for a 1:00 pm match.
