Merrimack Finishes NE-10 Season Unbeaten, Halts Bentley 8-1
WALTHAM, Mass. – Merrimack finished the Northeast-10 season 10-0 and halted Bentley's five match winning streak with an 8-1 victory over the Falcons on Saturday.
Despite the defeat, Bentley comfortably qualified for the Northeast-10 Championship with a 7-3 record. They will be the No. 4 seed and will host the No. 5 seed Assumption in the first round on Tuesday. Bentley won the regular season meeting 7-2 on April 2.
Bentley's point on this day came from the doubles team of Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and George Samander (Willemstad, Curacao/ISC) in the No. 2 match, 8-6 over Vince Bellino and Miguel Belfort. The pair finished the NE-10 season with an 8-1 record playing together.
Merrimack won the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches, and swept singles play.
