Bentley Sweeps Assumption 5-0 to Advance to Northeast-10 Semifinals

WALTHAM, Mass. – Led by a sweep of the doubles matches, Bentley University advanced to the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Men's Tennis Championship by beating Assumption 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the Bentley Tennis Courts.

Freshman Chase Rosa (Hampton, N.H./Berwick Academy) won both of his matches and earned the clinching point for Bentley by winning his No. 4 singles match. The Falcons improve their record to 11-7 overall and will face Southern New Hampshire in the semifinals on Thursday at 2:00 pm in Manchester, N.H.

With the first team to five points winning the match, Bentley gave themselves a huge advantage over the Greyhounds by sweeping the three doubles matches.

The No. 1 pairing of Alex DeMuth (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School) and Kamil Pilch (Wroclaw, Poland/IMG Pendleton) were 8-5 winners over Chris Waung and Viljami Rahnasto. The No. 2 match saw senior captains Jimmy Rindo (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) and Andrew Waddington (Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial) defeat Marco Leung and Matt Drolet in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-5). Rosa and Sam Frye (Redlands, Calif./Redlands) were too much for Mike Breen and Matt Surpenant in the No. 3 match, 8-2.

The singles matches were tightly contested, but Bentley won the No. 4 and No. 5 matches to secure the two points they needed to clinch the match. Sophomore Evan Chomka (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) put the Falcons up 4-0 by defeating Breen in the No. 5 match, 6-0, 6-2. Rosa then clinched it for Bentley by finishing off a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Surpenant in the No. 4 match.

Waddington and DeMuth were leading their matches, in the No. 3 and No. 6 spots respectively, when Rosa won his match.
