MIT Tops Bentley 9-0 in Spring Opener

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Bentley University men's tennis team opened its spring schedule on Friday against the MIT Engineers, but dropped a 9-0 decision against the non-conference opponent. The match marked the debut of new  Bentley tennis coach Rick Edelmann.

MIT won all three doubles matches to open a 3-0 lead. Senior Andrew Waddington (Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial) and freshman Chase Rosa (Hampton, N.H./Berwick Academy) had a good showing in the number three match, but ultimately dropped the match by an 8-6 score to Jeffrey Bu and Kenny Gea.

In singles play the Engineers won all six matches in straight sets. Rosa took Curtis Wu to a tiebreaker in the number five singles match. Wu won the first set 6-2, but Rosa rallied to take the second 6-4. However Wu emerged from the tiebreak a 10-5 winner to take the match.

The Falcons fall to 4-1 this season, while MIT improves to 2-1. Bentley is now off until the beginning its spring break trip with a match against Marian on March 9.
