WALTHAM, Mass. – Expectations are high for the Bentley University swimming and diving teams, who'll be at Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Sports and Recreation Center Thursday through Sunday for the 2020 Northeast-10 Conference Championships.

A pre-meet poll of conference coaches ranked the Bentley men number one and the favorite to claim a second straight championship, and third in the last four years. On the women's side, Bentley is forecast to finish second behind defending champion Assumption.

The Bentley men collected six of seven first-place votes and a total of 36 points. Southern Connecticut, with one first and 31 points, followed in second, mirroring last year when the Owls trailed the Falcons 993-890.5 in the final results. In the women's poll, Bentley, with two firsts and 43 points, trailed only the Greyhounds (6 firsts, 43 points). The Falcon women were second last year, their ninth straight top-three finish.

Current Bentley swimmers and divers have previously made 50 trips to the medal podium, collecting of 20 golds, 16 silvers and 14 bronze. The list includes sophomore freestylers Mark Zoda (Nashua, N.H./ Bishop Guertin HS) and Lucy Slowe (Millis/Millis HS), who each earned five medals at last year's championships.

All five of Zoda's were golds as he took first in the 100 and 200 yard free races and also participated on three winning relays. This year, Zoda is listed first on the psych sheet in the 200 free and second in both the 50 and 100.

Slowe helped Bentley capture the three free relays, earned silver in the 200 free and placed third in the 100 free. The psych sheet shows her first in both the 200 individual medley and the 200 free, as well as second in the 1000 free and third in both the 100 free and 100 back.

Seniors Jarod Yoshihara (Irvine, Calif./University HS) and Alper Alkaya (Milan, Italy) each have six career medals. Yoshihara has medaled in the 200 backstroke each of the last three seasons, taking second in 2017 and third each of the last two years. He's also helped the Falcons place in the top two in the 800 free relay annually, including gold a year ago. Alkaya owns two bronze medals in the 100 free and was part of two gold medal-winning relays last year.

Dan Sausto (Slingerlands, N.Y./Doane Stuart School), also a senior, will be looking to add to his total of three individual golds. He previously won both the 1000 and 1650 free last year, as well as the 1650 as a freshman.

Senior Caroline Logozzo (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield HS) is a five-time medalist in diving, including silvers from both the one-meter and three-meter boards last season.

In addition to Zoda, Bentley men who have number one rankings on the psych sheet are Sausto in three events (500 free, 1650, 400 IM), sophomore diver Jeremy Glick (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) off both boards, Yoshihara in the 200 back and sophomore Zach Papsco (Northport, N.Y./ Northport HS) in the 200 IM.

Three freshmen women also have number one rankings on the psych sheet. They are diver Mary Huminski (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) off both boards, Kathryn Galvin (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern HS) in the 100 free and Dariana Gonzales (Stamford, Conn./Westhill HS) in the 200 back.

Action at WPI's Sports and Recreation Center gets underway with the 1000 free, the 800 free relay and the three-meter women's diving prelims Thursday at 6 pm. Prelims the rest of the weekend are scheduled for 10:15 am with the evening session following at 6 pm (Friday, Saturday) and 5:30 pm (Sunday).

A live stream of the night sessions will be available through the NE10 NOW Digital Network and on NE10NOW.tv.
