Three Bentley Freshmen Receive Weekly Honors from Northeast-10; Falcons Also Sweep Relay Awards

WALTHAM, Mass. – A trio of Bentley University freshmen from Connecticut received recognition from the Northeast-10 this week when the conference announced its weekly awards for swimming and diving.

Mary Huminski (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) was the choice for NE10 Women's Diver of the Week honors while the conference's Rookies of the Week were Michael Motisi (Ellington, Conn./ Ellington HS) and Dariana Gonzales (Stamford, Conn./Westhill HS). It was Huminski's fourth selection and Gonzales' third in as many weeks.

Bentley also received the Men's Relay Team and Women's Relay Team of the week accolades, honors the Falcons have gained on a regular basis this season. It's the seventh honor for the men's team and the sixth for the women.

Against Bridgewater State for the 10-0 Falcon women, Gonzales swam to victory in the 50 yard freestyle (25.58) and participated on two winning relays. She helped Bentley capture the 200 free in 1:45.84 and the 200 medley in 2:00.76.

Huminski swept the diving in the Falcons' dual victory over the Bears, posting scores of 229.15 in the one-meter and 234.50 in the three-meter.

Motisi swam to victory in the 1,000 freestyle, posting a clocking of 10:19.45. He also was third in the 100 butterfly (57.63) and was part of a Falcon 200 free relay team that was second in 1:34.07.

The men's team wrapped up their dual schedule at 9-1 by capturing the 200 yard free relay in 1:32.53. Senior Timothy Fay (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown HS) led off with junior Tanner Fales (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast HS, freshman Alex Koch (Amawalk, Conn./Yorktown HS and junior Paul Homorodean (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran HS) following.

The women's 200 free relay, which posted a winning time of 1:45.84, included Gonzales, classmate Jessica Chen (Darien, Conn./Darien HS), junior Julia Ball (Phoenix, Md./Roland Park Country School) and senior Lea Guldemond (West Newbury/ Central Catholic HS).

In addition, the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll included Guldemond, Fay and sophomore diver Owen Busser (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford HS).

Fay, in addition to swimming the 200 free relay,                was part of the Falcons' winning 200 yard medley relay team (1:41.54) and placed second in the 1,000 free, reaching the finals in 10:54.89. Busser won both diving competitions as he amassed 200.20 points off the one-meter board and 184.20 off the three-meter.

Guldemond swam to victory in the 100 free (57.33) in addition to finishing the victory in the 200 free relay.

Bentley will return to action Feb. 6-9 with the Northeast-10 Conference Championships at WPI.
