Elenio Leads Bentley to 178-85 Season-Opening Win; Falcons Stretch Win Streak to 24

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior co-captain Frank Elenio (Ridgefield, N.J./Bergen County Academies) was first to the wall in three individual events as the Bentley University men's swimming team opened its season with a convincing 178-85 win over Wheaton College Friday night at the Dana Center pool.

Bentley captured 15 of 16 events while extending its dual winning streak to 24.

Elenio turned in winning performances in the 500 yard freestyle (5:02.91), the 200 individual medley (2:04.13) and the 200 butterfly (2:01.42) to power the Falcons.

Sophomore Paul Homorodean (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran HS) also played a significant role in the victory.  He swam to victory in the 50 free (21.62), tied teammate Marc Zoda (Nashua, N.H./Bishop Guertin HS), a freshmen, for first in the 100 free (48.30) and was part of the Falcons' two winning relays.

A number of newcomers impressed during their first college meet. Zoda, in addition to sharing first in the 100 free, was also part of the two winning relays. Zach Papsco (Northport, N.Y./Northport HS) took first in the breaststroke (1:01.13) and the 100 butterfly (53.42) and Jeremy Glick (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) swept the diving with scores of 200.70 (one meter) and 172.20 (three meter). In addition, Andrew D'Annolfo (Chestnut Hill/Newton South HS) was the winner in the 200 free (1:48.71) and Alec Lanza (Hartland, Wisc./Arrowhead HS) claimed first in the 200 breast (2:17.87).

Bentley's other individual winners were juniors Jared Yoshihara (Irvine, Calif./University HS) in the 200 backstroke (1:59.48) and Dan Sausto (Slingerlands, N.Y./Doane Stuart School) in the 1000 free (10:21.99).

The win, coupled with a victory from the women's team, gave coach Mary Kay Samko 398 wins as Bentley's head coach. She'll make her first attempt at 400 next Saturday when the Falcons host Le Moyne College.
