Boains Sparks Bentley to Season-Opening Win at Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. – Three wins by senior Jonny Boains (Unionville, Conn./Farmington HS) helped the Bentley University men's swimming and diving team open the season with a 178-116 road win over Wheaton College Saturday afternoon. The victory was the Falcons' 14th straight dual win, dating back to January 2016.

Boains began his final season with wins in the 200 yard freestyle (1:47.27), the 100 free (49.44) and the 200 individual medley (2:03.88).

The Falcons' only individual double-winner was sophomore Daniel Sausto (Slingerlands, N.Y./ The Doane Stuart School), who captured the 1000 free in 10:12.37 and the 500 free in 4:56.53.

Bentley's other winners were junior Frank Elenio (Ridgefield, N.J./Bergen County Academies) in the 200 butterfly (1:59.86), senior Chris Vukas (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) in the 50 free (22.42) and sophomore Jarod Yoshihara (Irvine, Calif./ University HS) in the 200 backstroke (1:58.58). Elenio (200 IM) and Yoshihara (100 back) also earned second place finishes.

Bentley completed the meet by capturing the 200 free relay in the 1:28.71. Vukas led off and was followed into the pool by freshman Paul Homorodean (Milford, Conn./Joseph A. Foran HS), classmate Clayton Bennice (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa HS) and sophomore Alper Alkaya (Milan, Italy).

Bentley is also on the road next Saturday for a meet against Le Moyne College (1 pm).
