Sausto Wins Twice, Helping Bentley Open with 157-143 Win over Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. – Bentley University freshman Dan Sausto (Slingerlands, N.Y./Doane Stuart School) was a double-winner in his collegiate debut, capturing the meet's two longest races to help the Falcons earn a 157-143 win over Wheaton College at the Balfour Natatorium Saturday afternoon.

Bentley's 31-7 dominance in the distance events proved to be the difference in the 14-point win. Sausto swam the 1,000 in 10:15.46 and completed the 500 in 5:04.57. Sophomore teammate Ryan McGeary (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS), who had three second place finishes in the meet, followed in both with times of 10:38.89 and 5:09.62, respectively. McGeary also set a personal best of 1:02.53 with a runner-up performance in the 100 breaststroke.

The other winners for the Falcons were senior Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/ Lubbock HS) in the 100 free (49.75), freshman Jarod Yoshihara (Irvine, Calif./University HS) in the 200 back (1:57.72), sophomore Frank Elenio (Ridgefield, N.J./Bergen County Academies) in the 100 butterfly (54.07) and senior Gregory Coleman (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North HS) in the one-meter diving (254.49). Each of the four also had a second-place finish in the meet.

While the Falcons only took first in six events, they used superior depth to record the win over the Lyons. Bentley swimmers were second in 10 of 14 individual events, and also were third in the same number.

Bentley will return to action next Sunday with its only home meet of the first semester, 1:00 against Le Moyne College.
