Seniors Power Bentley to 189-78 Win over St. Michael’s

WALTHAM, Mass. – Seniors Owen Karl (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton HS) and Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS) each won two swimming events, and classmate Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS) broke a school record while sweeping diving, as Bentley University recorded a 189-78 win over St. Michael's College in men's college swimming Wednesday afternoon at the Dana Center pool.

Bentley captured 15 of 16 events, including eight 1-2-3 sweeps, to improve to 4-4 on the season. St. Michael's dropped to 1-4.

Karl registered wins in the 200 yard freestyle (1:50.87) and the 500 free (5:03.18), two of the events in which the Falcons had the top three finishers. Bury was also part of a pair of 1-2-3 sweeps as he claimed the 50 backstroke in 26.36 and the 50 free in 22.63.

Bridge, who ran his unbeaten skein to 14, broke a record that held by Matt Cupps since 2001 for the second time this season. He posted a 305.40 off the three-meter board, surpassing Cupps' mark by 11.7 points. Earlier in the meet, Bridge captured the one-meter with a 288.60.

Freshman Frank Elenio (Ridgefield. N.J./Bergen County Academies) was also a double-winner for the Falcons as he was the first to the wall in the 200 butterfly (2:02.38) and the 400 individual medley (4:29.48).

The other individual winners for the Falcons were senior Nick Toselli (Barrington, R.I./ Barrington HS) in the 100 free (49.89), sophomore Aidan Karam (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) in the 1000 free (10:40.92) and a trio of juniors. Matt Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J./Morristown HS) captured the 200 back (2:06.07), Jerrod Zimmer (Middletown, Conn./ Middletown HS) won the 200 breaststroke (2:23.21) and Colin McCarthy (Glastonbury, Conn./ Northwest Catholic HS) prevailed in the 50 butterfly (25.16).

The Falcons also swept the relays with senior Timothy Connolly (Dorchester/ Boston Latin Academy) part of both.

Bentley is back in action Saturday with a matinee at Keene State.
