Bridge & McGeary Double-Winners for Bentley in Season-Opening Loss to WPI

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS) and freshman Ryan McGeary (Paramus, N.J./Bergen Catholic HS) were both double-winners  as Bentley University opened its men's swimming and diving season with a 183.5-108.5 road loss to WPI Wednesday night at the Sports and Recreation Center.

Bridge launched his final year by registering winning scores of 268.80 (one meter) and 265.73 (three meter). He prevailed in both handily, outscoring the closest competitor by an average of about 54 points.

McGeary, in his first collegiate dual meet, was victorious in the meet's two longest races, the 1000 and 500 yard freestyle. He took the 1000 in 10:21.92 with a winning margin of 10.79 seconds and completed the 500 in 5:03.56. That was 3.19 seconds better than sophomore teammate Aidan Karam (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy).

Other seconds were posted by senior Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS) in the 50 free (22.66), sophomore Christopher Vukas (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) in the 100 free (49.97) and freshman Matt Gwozdecke (Bristol, Conn./St. Paul Catholic HS) in the 50 butterfly (23.84).

Bentley also received third-place finishes from Gwozdecke in the 100 fly (54.11), Bury in the 50 backstroke (26.20), junior Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS) in the 200 free (1:49.30) and senior Nick Toselli (Barrington, R.I./Barrington HS) in the 50 free (22.78).

Bentley is back in action Saturday with a 1 pm meet at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y.
