NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Bentley University men's swimming and diving teams got off to a strong start Thursday at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships at Southern Connecticut State's Hutchison Natatorium with the day including silver medals in two of the three events contested, two school records and a meet-leading 124 points.

Bentley was one of four teams to surpass 100 points on the opening day of the four-day, seven-team meet and will begin tomorrow with a lead of 14 points over The College of Saint Rose. Le Moyne College and Southern Connecticut State followed with 106 and 104, respectively.

Sophomore Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS) edged out Saint Rose's David Genender for the silver in the one-meter diving. He finished with a score of 373.80, besting Genender by only 1.1 points. The Falcons also picked up a fourth in the event with freshman Nick Cilia (Brentwood, N.H./ Exeter HS) posting a 287.45.

In the 800 yard free relay, freshman Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS) followed sophomores Owen Karl (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton HS), Kevin Diefenbach (Hamilton, N.J./ Steinert HS) and Nick Toselli (Barrington, R.I./Barrington HS) into the pool with the quartet taking second in a school record time of 6:56.83. That shattered the existing mark, set last year by Karl, Diebenbach and two others, by more than ten seconds.

As part of that relay, Karl swam the opening 200 in a school record 1:43.76, breaking the record of 1:43.94 that classmate Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS) set last year.

In the 200 medley relay, Bentley placed fifth with Bury, junior Connor Mulvey-Hudson (Ardmore, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) and sophomores Tim Connolly (Dorchester, Mass./Boston Latin Academy) and Alex Liulakis (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly HS) combining for a 1:35.42, less than two-tenths of a second away from the school record.

The championships continue on Friday with the prelims at 10 am and the finals at 6 pm.
