Bentley Men Stand in 2nd After Day 1 of WPI Gompei Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Bentley University men's swimming and diving team had two second-place finishes and a trio of thirds Saturday during the opening day of the Gompei Invitational at WPI.

Sophomore Colton Bridge (Tolland, Conn./Tolland HS) was second in the one-meter diving with an 11-dive tally of 389.20. In the 800 free relay, sophomore Owen Karl (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton HS) combined with senior Andreas Mouritsen (Greve, Denmark) and freshmen Gregory Coleman (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North HS) and Davis Wilson (Ransom Canyon, Texas/Lubbock HS) for a 7:09.85, also good for second.

The individual thirds were posted by Karl in the 500 free (4:53.97) and sophomore Tim Connolly (Dorchester/Boston Latin Academy) in the 200 back (2:00.56). In the latter, Bentley also took fifth and sixth with junior Josh Witty (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos HS) finishing in 2:04.60 and freshman Matt Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J./Morristown HS) following in 2:07.25.

Bentley was also third in the 200 free relay, with senior Steve Sylvia (Westerly, R.I./Westerly HS) anchoring a quartet that also included sophomores Sebastian Bury (Bellevue, Wash./Newport Senior HS) and Nick Toselli (Barrington, R.I./Barrington HS), along with freshman Liam Bartlett (Syracuse, N.Y./William Nottingham HS). Their time was 1:29.44.

Freshman Nick Cilia (Brentwood, N.H./Exeter HS) was fourth in the one-meter diving (301.65) and Sylvia took sixth in the 50 freestyle (22.26).

As a team, Bentley is second amongst five teams at the midpoint with the Falcons' 1534 points trailing only WPI's 2998.
