Bentley Men Finish Day 1 of Northeast-10 Championships in 2nd Place

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Following the opening day of competition at the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, being held at Southern Connecticut State University, the defending champion Bentley University Falcons stand in second place.

Bentley amassed 178 points and trails the host team by 91 points.  Le Moyne College and the College of Saint Rose are right behind the Falcons in third, each with 168 points. A total of seven teams are participating.

Bentley finished sixth in both relays, with times of 1:28.38 in the 200 yard free relay and 3:37.88 in the 400 medley. In each, freshman Philip Chan (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier HS) led off and was followed, in order, by junior Joe Frantel (Canandaigua, N.Y./Marcus Whitman HS), freshman Steve Sylvia (Westerly, R.I./Westerly HS) and senior Egen Ouellette (West Hartford, Conn./Conard HS).

In individual events Friday, Chan was seventh in the 50 freestyle (22.42) and sophomore Tyler Champagne (Orange, Conn./Amity Reg. HS) was eighth in the 500 free (4:54.65).

The championships will run through Sunday with preliminaries at 10 am and finals at 6 pm both days.
