Bentley Returns from Break to Post 6th Straight Win, 209-71 over St. Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vt. -- Sophomore Tyler Champagne (Orange, Conn./Amity Reg. HS), freshman Phillip Chan (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier HS) and senior Mike Walsh (South Salem, N.Y./John Jay HS) each won two individual events as the Bentley University men's swimming team remained unbeaten with a 209-71 win over St. Michael's College Thursday afternoon at the St. Michael's pool.

The victory in the Falcons' first meet in 33 days boosted the team's record to 6-0. Bentley claimed victory in 12 of 14 individual events and also took both relays.

Champagne captured the meet's two longest events, with times of 10:48.04 in the 1000 freestyle and 5:11.14 in the 500 free.  Chan swam to victory in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, with times of 1:05.12 and 2:37.19, respectively. He was also part of the Falcons' 200 medley rely team, combining with junior Dave Curran (Danbury, Conn./Danbury HS), sophomore George Go (Manila, Philippines) and sophomore Mike Simoneau (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South HS).

Walsh swept the two one-meter diving events, with scores of 158.35 and 236.75.

Go and Curran also won individual races, with Go taking the 100 butterfly in 56.34 seconds and Curran taking the 200 individual medley (2:14.56).

The other individual winners for the Falcons were senior Chris Horan (Hanover, Mass./Boston College HS) in the 200 free (1:53.46), sophomore Mike Culkin (Avon, Conn./Avon HS) in the 200 fly (2:10.22), junior Joe Frantel (Canandaigua, N.Y./Marcus Whitman HS) in the 50 free (23.75) and freshman Steve Sylvia (Westerly, R.I./Westerly HS) in the 100 free (50.79). Horan and Frantel were also part of the Falcons' winning 200 free relay (1:33.77).

Bentley is in action again on Sunday when it competes at the College of Saint Rose.
