Assumption Scores Twice in 2nd Half to Top Bentley 2-1

Waltham, Mass. – Assumption scored twice in the second half to take a 2-1 victory over Bentley on Friday afternoon.

Bentley took a 1-0 lead through senior Alec Foster 's (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) goal in the 25th minute, but the Greyhounds received goals from senior Jason Lages in the 61st minute and sophomore Jeremy Martin in the 77th minute to rally.

Foster's goal in the 25th minute gave Bentley a 1-0 lead. A corner by Matt Lencioni (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams) was taken short and played to the edge of the penalty area to Harrison Bourgeois (Maynard, Mass./Maynard). Bourgeois chipped pass towards goal that bounced off the cross bar and Foster was there to nod it home to give Bentley the lead.

Towards the end of the half, Falcons goalie Nick Maldarella (Saint James, N.Y./St. John's) made a stellar diving save to deny a close range header by Juan O'Neill to keep Bentley in front.

Assumption got the tying goal from Lages, his 8th of the season. Senior Alex Moschella sent a long free kick into the box that Lages knocked down and scored from close range to even the score.

Martin then capitalized off a change of possession in the Bentley end, and took a short pass from Lages to score with a shot from a tough angle on the near post to give the Greyhounds a 2-1 lead with about 13 minutes to go.

Bentley came close to scoring the tying goal with just 4:00 minutes remaining, but had it ruled off for off sides.

The Falcons (8-7, 6-5), already assured of a playoff spot but with the seed to be determined, will close out the regular season on Wednesday at New Haven.
