Southern Conn Tops Bentley 1-0 in 2OT to Snap Home Unbeaten Streak

Waltham, Mass.- Southern Connecticut's Blaise Haba scored with 3:55 left in double overtime to give the Owls a 1-0 victory over the Bentley men's soccer team and snap its 16 match home unbeaten streak.

The defeat is Bentley's first on home turf since September 2017, during which they went 12-0-4.

Haba's goal came after the team's battled and back and forth on a muddy field for more than 106 minutes. Forward Devante Teixeira set the goal up by winning the ball in midfield and playing a pass out wide to Haba on the right wing. A few dribbles into the penalty area saw him haw enough space to get off a shot to the far post that went in from 12 yards.

Prior to the goal Bentley had the best chance in overtime. In the 105th minute freshman Patrick McMahon (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake) made a run down the right wing and fired a shot from just inside the box and across the goal that went just wide.

Bentley had a couple of other good scoring chances before overtime. In the 79th minute, junior Matt Lencioni (Rochester Hills, Mich.) teed up a shot from 25 yards and fired one on goal that was tipped wide by SCSU goalie Aren Seeger.

In the first half in the 41st minute, a free kick was sent into the box that landed at the feet of center back Adam Watkins (Clover, S.C./Clover), who ripped a shot on goal only for it to be saved by Seeger.

Early in the 1st half, center back Hunter Marshall (Harwinton, Conn./Avon Old Farms) denied a potential SCSU goal with a great slide to keep the ball out and have it land in the hands of keeper Nick Maldarella (Saint James, N.Y./St. John's).

Bentley (8-6, 6-4 NE10) will look to bounce back on Friday when they host Assumption at 3:00 pm for the final regular season home game.
