Bentley Tops Stonehill 1-0 to Extend Home Unbeaten Streak

Waltham, Mass. – Senior Julian Stewart (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro) scored in the first half and Bentley stymied the Stonehill offense en route to a 1-0 victory on Wendesday to extend its home unbeaten streak to 15 games.

The Falcons are now 11-0-4 in their last 15 home games in a streak that began in October of the 2017 season.

This season Bentley has now won two straight overall, is 4-1 in the NE10 for 12 points and 6-3 overall.

Bentley controlled the first half and had the majority of possession and created more scoring chances. An early shot by junior Connor Mote (Lisle, Ill./Benet) in the 6th minute hit the right post. Shortly after, a shot from inside the penalty box by senior Colby Gould (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) hit the left post.

Bentley's efforts were rewarded in the 32nd minute with a goal off the foot of Stewart, his 4th of the season. Mote and Nick Halliday (Cranbury, N.J./Saint John) combined to play a ball into the penalty area that was controlled by freshman Patrick McMahon (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake). McMahon then played a pass back to Matt Lencioni (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams). Lencioni got off a shot that was blocked by the Stonehill defense, but Stewart was in the right place in front of the goal to knock in the rebound to give Bentley the lead.

The Falcons held the 1-0 lead at halftime and had an 11-5 edge in shots.

Just minutes into the 2nd half, Mote had a chance to put Bentley up 2-0 when he was put through on goal by a through ball, but his shot was just denied by the hand of Stonehill keeper Andrew Hammersley.

In the 53rd minute Stewart had a rip from distance that was heading for the upper right corner, only to be tipped away by Hammersley's fingertips for a corner kick. On the resulting corner, junior Jack Murray (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) had a shot through traffic just saved by the keeper.

But Stewart's goal proved to be enough, as Adam Watkins (Clover, S.C./Clover), Hunter Marshall (Harwinton, Conn./Avon Old Farms) and the rest of the Bentley defense and goalkeeper Nick Maldarella (Saint James, N.Y./St. John) combined to keep a clean sheet.

Bentley will now look for its third straight win on Saturday when they visit Saint Michael's for a 3:00 pm match.
