Stewart Scores and Assists in Bentley’s 2-1 Win over Le Moyne

Waltham, Mass. – Senior Julian Stewart (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro) scored and setup goals in the second half as the Bentley men's soccer team defeated Le Moyne 2-1 on Saturday.

Stewart scored in the 69th minute to give Bentley a 1-0 lead, then setup a goal for freshman Patrick McMahon (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake) in the 75th minute. With the win, Bentley improved to 3-1 in the NE10 and 5-3 overall. The team has now gone 14 straight matches at home unbeaten at 10-0-4.

Senior Colby Gould (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) and McMahon were involved in the setup to Stewart's goal. McMahon passed to Gould, who made a run down the left wing and fed a cross from deep into the box. Stewart ran on to it and volleyed Gould's cross into the back of the net from six yards to give Bentley the lead and break the deadlock after 69-plus minutes of scoreless play.

Stewart then setup Bentley's second goal, scored by McMahon to put them up 2-0. Stewart had possession in midfield and spun away from a Le Moyne defender to create a two-on-one. McMahon took the pass and finished from 12 yards out to double the lead.

Le Moyne's Brandon Mimas added a late goal off a free kick sent in by Tom Henne in the 90th minute, but Bentley saw off the remaining time to seal the win.

Bentley keeper Nick Maldarella (Saint James, N.Y./St. John's) made four saves to earn the win.

The Falcons will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Stonehill at 3:00 pm.
