Waterbury, Conn. – A late goal by Post's Francesco Perinelli in the 88th minute broke a 2-2 tie and gave the host Eagles a 3-2 win over Bentley in a non-conference match on Wednesday.
Bentley's Julian Stewart (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro) pulled Bentley level at 2-2 with a goal in the 73rd minute. But with just over two minutes remaining, Perinelli scored his second of the afternoon to give Post the 3-2 victory.
Bentley's Connor Mote (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) scored the match's first goal in the 37th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The goal was Mote's second of the season and gave him either a goal or an assist in all three games so far this season. Sophomore Ronan Fitzpatrick (Coventry, Conn./East Catholic) had the assist.
The Falcons took the 1-0 lead into halftime and for 17-plus minutes into the second half, until Perinelli's first goal of the game in the 63rd minute tied the game 1-1. Just under six minutes later, the Eagles went ahead 2-1 when forward Sergio Diaz scored unassisted.
Stewart's goal for Bentley came just over four minutes later in the 73rd minute off a corner kick, with senior Diego Lombardi on the assist. The goal was Stewart's 13 of his Bentley career.
Falcons goalie Nick Maldarella (Saint James, N.Y./St. John's) made eight saves, while his counterpart David Mollenthial made six stops.
Bentley (1-2-0) now will turn its attention to its NE10 and home opener, which is on Saturday against Saint Anselm at 1:00 pm.
